The 33-year-old will face an independent disciplinary panel on Tuesday evening, with the verdict being announced on Wednesday.

This was May’s first match back after the being with England for the World Cup, but he could not prevent the Cherry and Whites falling to a 45-27 loss to their West Country rivals. The winger retired from international rugby soon after the tournament, where England finished third.

“The case will be heard by an independent disciplinary panel chaired by Matthew Weaver KC sitting with Daniel Gore and Christian Scotland-Williamson on Tuesday 14 November (after 6pm).

“The verdict will be announced on Wednesday 15 November.”
