The wife of All Black winger Julian Savea has taken to Twitter to shutdown rumours that her husband is going to sign for an English Premiership side.

Reports today linked Savea with a short-term deal with Harlequins, who have just lost the services of England ace Marland Yarde, who dramatically quit the club on Friday.

However, Fatima Savea has blasted the rumours on Twitter.

“This is news to both Julian and I! piss off with your rumours”, in response to a Tweet which suggested the move would go ahead.

When one Twitterer asked her if Savea could come to the UK for 3 months, she replied: “Not even for a minute. He isn’t missing the birth of his child in December.”

A few hours later, Savea himself took to the social media platform to rubbish the story.

It was speculated that Savea could sign on a short-term contract, mitigating the loss of Yarde from the Harlequins’ squad.

Savea recently extended his deal with the Hurricanes, although it was suggested a short-term deal with Harlequins would allow him to return for the 2018 Super Rugby season with the Wellington based franchise.

UK based fans will however get to see him line out for the Barbarians next weekend – against New Zealand.

World Cup winner Savea, the leading try-scorer at the 2015 edition in England, last played for New Zealand in the drawn third Test against the British and Irish Lions in Auckland in July.

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen, speaking after omitting Savea, insisted the Wellington flyer was far from finished at Test level.

“Julian’s been a very, very good All Black for us and done some great things – I feel for him a wee bit at this stage,” Hansen said.

“He’s disappointed and so he should be. He’s done a lot in the jersey, he’s enhanced it when he’s worn it and his time’s not over.”

Razor has an about turn on All Blacks eligibility rules

Yep, another problem!

I think he would have, in the instance I mentioned, which wasn’t changing anything other than correctly applying todays eligibility quidelines. Which is an arbitrary construct, as the deal likely would have played out completely differently, but I just ‘allowed’ him to have 1 year sabbatically for his ‘loyalty’, rather than having some arbitrary number like 70 caps required.

So if Richie had a 3 year deal, and the first year he was allowed to use him still, I don’t think he’d really not transition to Dmac being his main 10, as he’s obviously the only one he can use for the following two years, therefore likely his only real option for the WC (very hard for Richie to overtake him in such a short time). Richie would purely be a security net in a situation like I proposition where there are only small changes to the eligibility.

The system is not working well enough though, as we don’t have the Rugby Championship or World Cup trophies, do we? Well on that last question, that’s all I’m really saying but I would not believe a word this author says, so it’s entirely a ‘what if’ discussion, but if the author is right and now they are actually going to be more flexible, I think that’s great yeah. Ultimately thought I think those two players were an anomaly signing their contracts and futures up so far ahead, especially of when they were performing. Both jumped at the opportunity of good contracts when their All Black prospects weren’t looking that bright.
