Leicester Tigers statement: Two more players exit club
Leicester Tigers have issued a statement confirming that Tom Cowan-Dickie and Gabriel Oghre – who were both on short-term deals – have left the club.
Cowan-Dickie joined Tigers in September 2021 and signed a new short-term contract before the start of the current season. He has played a total of 10 games for the team, including six games in the 2021/22 Premiership season.
Oghre recently transferred to Leicester from Wasps after their financial collapse and has played three games for the Tigers – who currently sit in fifth on the Gallagher Premiership table.
Interim Leicester Tigers Head Coach Richard Wigglesworth said: “It’s always a pity when you lose good people but we knew this was coming, with both on short-term deals, and wish them well in their next chapters.”
“I was fortunate to have played alongside both during their time here and equally as fortunate to have coached them during that time as well.
“Tom joined us ahead of last year and made an immediate impact, on and off the pitch, with his brilliant character and commitment to his team-mates.
“Gabriel came in under different and difficult circumstances, which you would never have known in the way he went about everything in a professional and hard-working manner.
“On behalf of everybody, I want to say thank you to both of them for what they have given – in different periods – to Leicester Tigers and look forward to seeing what is next for both on and off the field.”
Cowan-Dickie and Oghre’s contracts with Leicester Tigers conclude yesterday – December 31, 2022.
The news comes two weeks after Tom Horton and Lachlan Shelley left Welford Road.
Horton, who was also signed on a short-term contract ahead of the 2022/23 season, made four appearances for the club and scored four tries.
Shelley joined in the summer and the club have agreed an early release from his contract so that the outside-back can return to Australia. The 22-year-old made just three appearances for the club.
