Leinster have confirmed that they are continuing to monitor Ireland hooker Ronan Kelleher ahead of their Investec Champions Cup Round-of-16 match with Harelquins at Croke Park.

Head Coach Leo Cullen’s charges dug deep to secure a 10-7 win over the Sharks in Durban on Saturday, managing to hold off a home side that enjoyed plenty of possession against the Irish giants.

Leinster struck just before the break to edge ahead through Henry McErlean, exploiting a yellow card for Sharks halfback Jaden Hendrikse for cynical play. Scott Penny scored again for the visitors just after the break and the Irish heavyweights managed to hold on to their lead despite a converted try for hooker Bongi Mbonambi.

Tries galore and jeopardy overload on Super Super Saturday 2015

Ireland claimed the Six Nations in 2015 despite a monumental performance by England against France.

Ireland hooker Ronan Kelleher was absent for that tense encounter due to a neck injury but Cullen has confirmed the front-rower will “step up his rehabilitation” this week.

A final decision on Kelleher’s fitness will be made closer to Saturday.

While Kelleher’s status remains cautiously optimistic, there is less encouraging news regarding flanker Will Connors. The back row suffered a shoulder injury in the narrow win over the Sharks and is ruled out for selection.

In addition, back-row Alex Soroka has entered the Graduated Return to Play Protocols following a head injury and his availability will be determined later in the week.

On a brighter note, prop Michael Milne emerged unscathed from his outing in Durban and will be ready for selection, while scrum-half Cormac Foley has returned to full training. Meanwhile, Leinster have offered no further updates on Jordan Larmour, Paddy McCarthy, Rob Russell and James Culhane – all of whom remain sidelined for the time being.
