Lions Squad Announcement LIVE

After a week of rumours & supposed leaks, Warren Gatland has unveiled his 41-man squad to take on the All Blacks this summer. The squad consists of 16 English players, 12 Welsh, 11 Irish & 2 Scots.

There were a few surprises in the backs, with Kiwi born Jared Payne getting the nod due to his versatility. Ben Te’o has also been included and adds some bulk to the backline. Other notable additions include Tommy Seymour & Jack Nowell who both deserve their place. Simon Zebo & Mike Brown miss out.

In the pack, there was bad news for England captain Dylan Hartley & teammate James Haskell. Peter O’Mahony’s man of the match performance against England sees him rightfully included alongside Munster teammate CJ Stander. Joe Marler gets the nod over Healy and Launchbury can consider himself very unlucky to stay at home.

I agree with Steve Diamond in so many ways. The TMOs are invariably not even qualified/experienced enough to be an AR let alone to be a Referee yet they hold so much power/influence & they miss so much & seem to quite often have tunnel vision.


There is is also so much inconsistency, subjectivity & biasness from game to game, decision to decision which is all very frustrating for all watching or affected.


And is it just a single person as the TMO or or does the TMO have a team of even less qualified assistants advising them? The whole set-up needs addressing/fixing.

“UBB do have some weaknesses in D and in the tigh five which I think Munster will be well able to exploit. Whether they can stop UBB scoring is another matter ofc!

If they go as well up front as they did v LAR, I reckon they can win.”


Fwiw, agree UBB may well beat Toulouse and also agree Leinster will be smiling if they do but then again, I had Toulon down to squeak past Toulouse on Sunday!

They got Slimani pretty cheap too - in his mid thirties and seemingly on his way out of Top 14. Rejuvenated at Leinster this season.


It means they can spell Tadhg Furlong without losing effectiveness, and Jordi-Robbie-Garry-Jamie Osborne in midfield is an unbelievable rotation.

Leinster have built the offload in only on certain situations Ed. At the same time it is almost impossible to stop guys as tall and dexterou as RG from doing it!


I don’t think either of two French clubs remaining have outstanding defences, and if its a Leinster-UBB final as I expect, I doubt the Irish will be too worried.

Nah, it’s not. First and foremost Glasgow are short at fh with Jordan leaving for Bristol. Weir is on his very last legs, Hastings has suffered some tough injuries and not recovered his previous form yet (he may or may not get there) and that leaves only Urwin, who is raw to say the least!


As for Scotland, Lancaster is 23 and post Finn they have no clear and obvious successor as things stand. Jordan or Burke MAY fill that role, Healy and Thomson not shining so far as they rotate with Edinburgh and Kinghorn has proven beyond doubt with Toulouse that he is a world class back 3 and not a 10.


So no, it’s not odd at all but it probably is slightly disappointing to see him as the TJ replacement if you’re a Glasgow fan…
