Louis Rees-Zammit is not coming back to rugby as he is handed NFL lifeline

NFL-hopeful and Welsh rugby superstar Louis Rees-Zammit has been handed an NFL lifeline, signing an active roster deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars for 2025.

After being cut by the Kansas City Chiefs following his initial switch and journey through the IPP (International Player Pathway), Rees-Zammit landed with the Jaguars practice squad throughout 2024, even travelling with the team for their London fixture.

The Jaguars have now signed Rees-Zammit for their active roster where he will go through the off-season schedule in an attempt to make the final 53-man roster for the next NFL season.

“I’m excited to extend my stay in Jacksonville by signing for another year,” Rees-Zammit said, “While I know it was a tough season on the field for the team, I think I made some great progress with my own game, and I’m looking forward to continuing the hard work and advancing my skills even more, and believe that Jacksonville is the place for me to do that.

“The future looks bright with the Jaguars with the appointment of Coach Coen and the rest of the staff, and honestly, I can’t wait to get back to it.”

This will be Rees-Zammit’s second full season of American Football. He officially changed his position to wide receiver once joining the Jaguars after initially trialling as a running back.

The way Wales are going, he’s probably thinking given it another year won’t make any difference. If it doesn’t work out, he’ll have a year before a world cup to reintegrate back into the squad. Sad but that’s where they are at.

It was definitely a high shot: “There was one last twist in the game when Sotutu hit Peter Lakai in the head with his shoulder”. It’s a fine line between a dominant hit and a red these days.

Agree, the trio needs to work. Skills sets where one of the trio is weaker can be made up from the other two, or even the other forwards (but that’s getting on a slippery slope - tight forwards need to be dominant in their core roles first).

The All Blacks will probably settle on two all rounders, at 7 and 8; and a bruiser who can jump at 6. We’ll see. You never know what Robertson has planned. I think last year he was a bit conservative and this year (which might be his last, if results are the same as last year) could be his last chance to stamp his mark on the team.

You’re the plonker, I think, with that poor comment. I’m merely making the point that in Sevens, you need a balance of plodders & speedsters. Unfortunately the AB7s are unbalanced atm. About 6 or 7 of their dynamic playmakers went to XVs this year. Hence, I can’t see how results would change.

Kiwi teams haven’t played the Aussies much. Six games over the first six rounds. The Landers lost two, the Blues lost one. The Chiefs dealt to the Brumbies by 15pts & we thrashed both the Reds & the Force.

Hardly an indication of ABs being “outplayed by their counterparts”. Then again, it IS the Breakdown, where tongues are regularly in gear before brains are engaged.

I could be wrong but I thought that was because of lazy tackling. This year I’m guessing he’s been asked to bring more of an edge to both sides of the ball, which exaggerates that weakness. It will, yeah, that’s my whole point. He shouldn’t need to cop that.

He’d for sure take the 6 jersey. Like we’ve already deduced, it doesn’t matter what number is on their jerseys these days, my whole point is it’s not a good trio.
