Louis Rees-Zammit has signed a management agreement with rapper Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports, as he looks to make a successful cross-sport switch from rugby to the NFL.

The former Wales winger has linked up with the management giants after visiting the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets and Denver Broncos. He is also due at the current Super Bowl champions, Kansas City Chiefs, on Tuesday.

RugbyPass understands that Jacksonville Jaguars, who have strong links to the UK through Fulham FC owner Shahid Khan, have also shown an interest in Rees-Zammit following his impressive pro day performance last week.

Rees-Zammit has admitted that it has been a whirlwind since he announced in January that he was going to leave Gloucester, the Gallagher Premiership rugby club, to pursue his American dream and try to win an NFL deal.

“The past few months since announcing my career decision to join the International Player Pathway Program (IPPP) in pursuit of earning a spot on the National Football League roster in the United States for 2024 have been an exciting whirlwind,” said Rees-Zammit via Roc Nation Sports.

“Following 10 weeks of training at IMG academy, the IPPP’s pro day led to a lot of interesting calls and scheduled visits to a few NFL teams. These developments have ultimately directed me to make my next decision as I pursue this new challenge in my career.

“I have decided to sign with Roc Nation Sports and agent Kim Miale to represent my NFL endeavours and negotiate my on-field contract. It was an easy choice to select an agency that could properly advocate for my new NFL career venture while also understanding the significance of my time as a rugby player.

“Roc Nation Sports International represents an arsenal of impressive rugby players and I am so proud to be the first athlete to bridge the gap between Roc Nation Sports and Roc Nation Sports International.

“I’m confident in my choice to entrust Roc Nation and Kim with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and believe that they will help me best navigate this next chapter.”

‘The problem with this year’s Champions Cup? Too many English clubs’

"Yes I was the one who suggested to use a UEFA style point. And I guessed, that based on the last 5 years we should start with 6 top14, 6 URC and 4 Prem."

Yes I am aware that you suggested it, but you then went on to say that we should initially start with a balance that clearly wasn't derived from that system. I'm not a mind reader, so how was I to work out that you'd arrived at that balance by dint of completely having failed to remember the history of the competition.

"Again, I was the one suggesting that, but you didn't like the outcome of that."

I have no issues with the outcome of that, I had an issue with a completely random allocation of teams that you plucked out of thin air.

Interestingly its you who now seem to be renouncing the UEFA style points system, because you don't like the outcome of reducing URC representation.

"4 teams for Top14, URC and Prem, 3 teams for other leagues and the last winner, what do you think?"

What about 4 each + 4 to the best performing teams in last years competition not to have otherwise qualified? Or what about a UEFA style system where places are allocated to leagues on the basis of their performance in previous years' competitions?

There's no point including Black Lion if they're just going to get whitewashed every year, which I think would be a possibility. At most I'd support 1 team from the Rugby Europe Super Cup, or the Russian Championship being included. Maybe the best placed non-Israeli team and the Russian winners could play off every year for the spot? But honestly I think its best if they stay limited to the Challenge Cup for now.
