Sans surprise, Pablo Matera (31 ans, 107 sélections) retrouve sa place de titulaire pour défier l’Irlande vendredi 15 novembre à l’Aviva Stadium de Dublin.

Après avoir purgé sa suspension de deux semaines suite à un carton rouge reçu face à l’Afrique du Sud lors du Rugby Championship en septembre, le puissant troisième-ligne argentin est de retour dans le XV de départ.

L’ancien joueur du Stade Français, désormais chez les Crusaders, avait dû faire l’impasse sur la large victoire de l’Argentine (18-50) contre l’Italie à Udine la semaine dernière.

Matera est l’un des trois ajustements opérés par Felipe Contepomi pour affronter une équipe irlandaise en quête de rachat après son revers 13-23 face aux All Blacks à domicile.

Autre retour de poids pour les Pumas : Guido Petti fait sa réapparition dans le XV de départ. Le deuxième-ligne vétéran formera une solide paire avec Pedro Rubiolo, reléguant ainsi Franco Molina, récemment arrivé aux Exeter Chiefs, sur le banc.

Du côté des lignes arrières, Felipe Contepomi opère un ajustement avec Matias Moroni, qui passe du banc au poste de trois-quarts centre, remplaçant Matias Orlando, désormais écarté du groupe. England find winning formula in high scoring second half against Ireland

If the author thinks that Ireland were ever in control of that match they were watching a different one to me. In the first half Ireland kept England at bay by ferocious tackling and competing at the breakdown with long relieving kicks downfield. That enabled them to stay in the contest but the second half was just one way traffic.

One person and one person alone is to blame for this awful display and that is the once-was-OK coach, Jake White. How on earth you can choose a hooker that can’t even throw the ball in straight, and a flank who still hasn’t learnt how to tackle, and also doesn’t realise that games on fake turf require some previous practise (to say nothing about his kak preparations for English winter weather as in the match against Saracens which also included the really dom lack of common sense in a back that didn’t know you had to touch the ball before passing it after a mark) I’m afraid I just don’t understand.

That’s nothing to do with the Cake Tin. It could use some mods for sure, but far too much emphasis is put on shape, it’s just an excuse for those that don’t want to go anymore.

Now Wellington could do with a nice boutique 12-15k stadium that it would make more sense to have as the Canes home. They can take the big games to the Cake Tin if and when they get them.
