Outgoing Storm star Cronk rules out rugby union switch

Melbourne Storm star Cooper Cronk

Waratahs fans hoping to see Cooper Cronk in Super Rugby next season had their hopes dashed after the Melbourne Storm star dismissed speculation of a move to rugby union.

Cronk, 33, is set to leave Storm to return home to Sydney and a host of NRL sides are chasing his signature, however talk of a code-switch to Waratahs has emerged.

Waratahs poured cold water on those rumours on Thursday and Dally M Medallist Cronk followed suit as the Australia half-back decides whether to continue playing in 2018.

“That won’t be happening,” Cronk told reporters on Friday.

“Everyone has their right to an opinion but I haven’t had any conversation with rugby union and I have no intention.

“My intention is to make a decision on if I play again next year not where I am going to play.”

Cronk continued: “Media have their right to fill some pages but they don’t know the conversations I have had.

“I did play a bit of rugby at school and thoroughly enjoyed it and I watch rugby and played with some of the current Wallabies players.

“But I love rugby league. It has given me everything I have in my life.
