Reds sign ex-Force playmaker

Jono Lance with the Reds in 2011.

Experienced flyhalf Jono Lance has been granted an immediate release from the Rebels to move north and return to the Queensland Reds.

The 27-year-old pivot was a key figure in the Force backline for two seasons, before linking with the Rebels after the side was exiled from Super Rugby. Lance will now bolster the Reds stocks along with another ex-Red Ben Lucas.

The Journeyman playmaker has also spent time at the Waratahs and is currently with Worcester in the English Premiership where he wishes to return after the Super Rugby season.

Lance is currently nursing a broken hand, but will be back in Reds colours sooner rather than later as Brad Thorn’s side is desperate for depth at flyhalf and fullback after the Quade Cooper and Karmichael Hunt’s sagas.

“I spent a lot of time at Ballymore in the early stages of my career so it was a great feeling to be driving back through the gates again,” Lance said.

“I know the guys have been working hard in the pre-season so I’m looking forward to seeing what happens the next few weeks.

“It’s really exciting to get back and pull on the Reds jersey again.”

“Everyone in world rugby knows the kind of guy Brad Thorn is,” Lance said.

“To be able to work with him is definitely very exciting.

“I was lucky enough to play against him once and just his background, his toughness and the way he goes about everything and the conversations I have had with him are really exciting ones.”
