Referee push earns Rapava Ruskin six-week ban

Worcester Warriors prop Val Rapava Ruskin

Val Rapava Ruskin has played his last game for Worcester Warriors after the prop was banned for six weeks for pushing a referee.

Rapava Ruskin was cited for shoving match official Greg Garner in the back with both hands during Worcester’s 16-14 defeat at Newcastle Falcons last Friday.

The Georgia-born 24-year-old, who will join Gloucester at the end of the Premiership season, has been suspended until September 4.

A Rugby Football Union disciplinary panel stated: “The panel heard from the player and after carefully considering all of the available evidence, found that this was at the lower end of seriousness for this type of offending.

“The panel imposed a sanction of six weeks which reflects the seriousness of making contact with a referee or any match official.”

Warriors director of rugby Gary Gold last month claimed Rapava Ruskin is on standby for England’s tour of Argentina.

Actually it did not go directly into touch it went "backwards" from his hand (continuing forwards from the perspective of the ball) to go to ground in the in goal area and then because it was spinning went back out of in goal to go into touch. I thought that quite harsh as he could have been trying to scoop the ball upwards to be able to catch it himself which would have been legitimate - he certainly did not direct it towards touch.

Funny that I read this after watching last night's game where Matera packed down at openside every signle time. Jaguares also used to play with OS/BS flankers when he was with them. Of course, if he's at 8 or not involved, Pumas could do it the French way and put, let's say, Kremer on the right and Golzalez on the left. You're correct about Matera's tenure at Crusaders where he was mainly used at blindside but also at #8 on occasion as far as I remember. He has the frame and skillset to play whichever back row position he's put at, much like Ardie or Jack Willis or Pocock.

Doesn't sound like FJ is doing anything of the sort to be fair. When your head coach says he's not spoken to him but claims he's doing work in the background... That work must be really productive if the coaches aren't bothering to look at it.

It's so English... Our football teams have been doing it since time immemorial. Score a goal in the first minute then 10 men defending in the box for the next 89!

Although Eddie picked it up and ran with it when he used to pick Wigglesworth to come on and close out games. Now unsurprisingly with Wigglesworth as the head coach it has continued.. coincidence or something more sinister?

You’d hope so. The A game is good for the guys close to selection.

Must say I didn’t think Tom was a standout in the A game but it’s the only game I’ve watched him this season that he wasn’t.

Luke Reimer was a clear MoM from our perspective - hard to believe Tizzano, for all his effort, is considered a better option to back up FMR. He’s a world class breakdown threat, he’s a powerful defender, and his carrying has really stepped up.

I would argue that Pearson and Willis are elite. The Willis in France, even better. Pollock is exciting. Could be anything.

I’d pick Pearson ahead of Earl and the Curry’s. Bigger and more physical than Earl, more skilled than Curry(s).

to help the referee's decision, it seems he also deliberately push the ball directly in touch. But already the first yellow card and some penalties showed a lack of discipline.
