Retallick returns from six-week lay-off

Chiefs and All Blacks star Brodie Retallick

New Zealand lock Brodie Retallick will return to action with the Chiefs on Friday after a six-week lay-off.

Retallick, the 2014 World Rugby Player of the Year, suffered a pectoral injury against the Crusaders in Super Rugby on June 2, ruling him out of the All Blacks‘ series against France.

But the 27-year-old has been selected to start at number four in the Chiefs side to face rivals the Hurricanes in Hamilton.

The Hurricanes are five points clear of the Chiefs in the New Zealand Conference, heading into this final fixture, although both teams are assured of a post-season place.

Two years ago, there were a lot of boks in top14. A lot of them were not very involved for their clubs. Today there is only Cobus Reinach who have allways deserved his money. Next month ,he will go back in SA. But I think the reason of the lack of current boks in France is not the involvment of players but the fact that they are not available half of the year.

You can’t select them all at once JM but if you actually had their best like McReight or Valentini then yes, I could imagine they would(n’t).


I’ve been trying to tell them that for a couple of years now, I’m pretty sure they go the message. Just yesterday I said if Super Rugby didn’t want to be disrupted by an ANZAC test they should use their 2ndXV team to bring back overseas players instead.

Presumably any writs would be directed to the IRFU’s legal department?

Great article. I believe Joe Schimdt and co will pick James O’Connor in the Wallabies team. His play for the Crusaders this year has been crucial to our come back. I hope he is back with the Crusaders next year.A good guy, he was a hero against the Blues last week.
