Hi Miz, thanks for the nice reply. Yup - Kloof outside Durban. The next door suburb was Hillcrest and I coached the HC Villagers club. When I was asked to coach my daughter’s school side she was beside herself with excitement. She claimed that she suddenly became the most popular girl in the school. Kloof’s most famous rugby prodigy was the Springbok prop BJ Botha.

What a co-incidence! My wife grew up on her grandmother’s farm outside Bulawayo (her father was in the diplomatic corps and continually moving so she stayed with her grandmother during her formative years). She speaks longingly of her years on the cattle ranch run single handedly by the old lady who’s only protection during the war years was her popularity locally as an unofficial white “sangoma.” The name of their farm was Pentagon (five sided). I’m sure our families would have known each other.
