Scotland draft Ross Ford injury replacement

Uncapped hooker Neil Cochrane has replaced the injured Ross Ford in Scotland’s squad for their three internationals this month, while Rory Sutherland and Magnus Bradbury have also been called up.

Ford will miss the Tests against Samoa, New Zealand and Australia due to a pectoral injury, so his Edinburgh team-mate Cochrane has been drafted in by Gregor Townsend.

Prop Sutherland will also report for international duty along with back-row Bradbury, who won his second cap in a victory over Italy in June.

The absence of Ford is another blow for Townsend, who is already without the likes of Greig Laidlaw, Richie Gray, Sean Maitland, Mark Bennett and Duncan Taylor.

Scotland face Samoa in their first November international at Murrayfield on Saturday.

I’d say his plan is play the next world cup, try and get a winner’s medal, then immediately hop the plane back to France and turn out for Tonga in 3031 while also cashing those club cheques.

I don’t agree with the NZR policy as such, because they may as well get their money’s worth while he’s here, but I can certainly see how they’d be viewing his ‘stay’ as a not particularly loyal one.

Exactly. The big ‘fear’ for the NZR around their overseas policy is loss of control over their workload, and that the club and provincial game will suffer because everyone will just go overseas. An easy go-to excuse.

The NZR themselves have done the most damage to anything below their precious Super Rugby/All Blacks by neglecting anything below those levels, then putting out statements that provincial rugby is not ‘sustainable’.

Both club and the NPC, standards wise, is a far cry from what it once was. The NZR only have to look in the mirror to see who's to blame.

More myopic thinking by the NZR. We don’t half like shooting ourselves in the foot and being precious when it comes to overseas players, even Kiwis playing for Aussie teams in Super Rugby. Ridiculous.

From all the noises he’s making, it’s pretty obvious Leicester will be off again in a couple years anyway, so may as well play him while we have him.

He’d certainly be a marked improvement on some of the “experience” only in the squad because they’ve hit the magical 50+ caps for the ABs, whereby selection seems automatic.

Wow, the Irish players really didn’t like Genge before the tournament. Sheehan said something similar earlier in the tour. It must have come from the 6 nations because I don’t think Genge has played against Leinster. And now the Irish coach inexplicably drops him from the starting XV in exchange for, wait for it, an Irish player. Mmm, go figure.

Brilliant acquisition for Fijiana. Ioan will be 100% committed and I am confident that he is capable of making the huge step changes,that we saw with the Welsh Women ,during his tenure as coach.A huge challenge but one,that I’m pretty sure,that Ioan and the players will relish. Fiji,though geographically distant,is not a million miles from Wales,in regards to the nations proud rugby culture. I wish Ioan the best of luck in his new role and look forward in anticipation to watching Fijiana progress,as they head towards the world cup .
