Shaun Stevenson expresses disappointment over All Blacks feedback

One-time All Black Shaun Stevenson is back from a brief stint in Japan and has offered a candid insight into his mindset as he weighs up his future options.

The short-term sabbatical came about as Stevenson reportedly looked to end his contract with New Zealand Rugby early to make a full-time shift to Japan’s League One.

A compromise was reached, and Stevenson was released temporarily, missing the opening three rounds of the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season while suiting up for the Kubota Spears. The club were eager to land the 28-year-old’s signature after losing Wales star Liam Williams to injury.

The Boks Office boy speculate as to whether Felix Jones’ return could set him up for a long term future with the Springboks. Watch the full show now on RugbyPass TV.

The sabbatical allowed the star fullback room to breathe and consider his career in New Zealand with an outside perspective.

There are options for both club and country for a talent like Stevenson, with a relationship with the Kubota club and eligibility for Samoa once the mandatory three-year stand-down period is served since his last All Blacks Test, which was in 2023.

The key to any decision over his future will, of course, be Stevenson’s All Blacks selection prospects, something he’d like some more transparency over.

“I guess after last year, it was pretty disappointing,” Stevenson explained at Chiefs training ahead of their second final rematch of the year against the Blues.

“I think the disappointing thing was just the feedback in terms of where I was sitting and, you know, I can’t help or change that. So, you know, I’ve got to do what’s best for myself and for my family.

“That’s just part of footy, right? So just got to keep moving forward”

All Blacks management deliver phone calls to both selected and unselected fringe talents, with the latter often receiving feedback on what the coaching group are looking for to help players reach their potential.

For Stevenson, a player in his prime who has been in the All Blacks conversation for several years now, he’d like to have a better understanding of where he stands “in the pecking order” after a “lack of feedback” from the selectors.

“I mean, obviously I’m a one-test All Black, you can’t take that away from myself. I guess being up in Japan, you kind of think about a lot of things around outside of footy, you open your eyes up to a lot more things when you’re in New Zealand compared to when you’re in Japan.

On the prospect of switching international allegiance to represent his Samoan heritage, Stevenson was undecided and waiting to see where certain chips would fall.

“Maybe, we’ll see, we’ll see. I’m not sure if they got the coaching staff sorted at the moment. So, I mean, that’s not a no. So, we’ll see what happens. And obviously, World Cup in a couple of years, so, we’ll see what happens here.”

As Chiefs fan I love watching his play but he’s his own worst enemy wrt a black jersey. He got told to beef up his defence and didnt. Compare him to Reuben Love…and yeah..the AB boat has now sailed.

If you compare him to Love, you can go and do it right now, I did it months ago, he beats Love in most everything from memory, especially defence.

But you did somehow hit the nail on the head! He is his own worst enemy in general with his laid back style. What makes him great at what he’s good at, but when you compare him to someone who is completely the opposite like Love, it’s what stands out as the actual difference (rather than stats telling the true story).

He was on fire in 2023 with such great form those errors for being a fraction slow reacting/thinking were few and far between. He wasn’t close to those same standards last year, but obviously it was still wrong for players like Fihaki to be selected ahead of him just because hes a short drive, rather than flight, away.

Disagree. I think he tried too hard last year and played injured. I also never bought into the whole thing that he’s a week defender. I think it was just an excuse not to pick him when he was in brilliant form. He’s better than Love at this point in their careers.

Crusaders rookie earns 'other than Dupont' praise from All Blacks star

I’m reaching out today with a heartfelt plea, hoping my experience can serve as a warning to others. I’m one of the millions who have lost everything to the Vourteige scam, and my story is a painful reminder of how easily trust can be exploited. It all started with promises of high returns: a 5-month contract, 2% monthly withdrawals on a free margin account. Everything sounded too good to be true, but I was drawn in by their convincing tactics and the allure of financial freedom. I trusted them so much that I borrowed a significant amount of money from banks, believing in the legitimacy of this investment. Unfortunately, I failed to see the warning signs and ignored the growing doubts I had.I ended up investing a substantial sum of $450,000, fully expecting to see profits and withdrawals, as promised. But that never happened. No matter how many times I tried, I couldn’t access any of my funds. The platform’s responses became more vague, and the withdrawals never came through. It soon became clear that I had been scammed, and I was left in a situation that could have led to complete financial ruin.At this point, I felt utterly hopeless. I was on the verge of bankruptcy, and the thought of facing my family, especially my parents, with this news was unbearable. They had no~ idea how~ deep I had gone into this investment, and I couldn’t bear to lose their trust. The shame I felt was overwhelming. But just when I thought there was no way out, I discovered a legitimate recovery team called Trust Geeks Hack Expert Website. www://trustgeekshackexpert.com/ They offered a glimmer of hope when everything seemed lost. The team worked tirelessly to guide me through the process of recovering my funds. Thanks to their dedication, I was able to recover 100% of my lost crypto funds. I can’t express how grateful I am for their expertise, support, and the relief I now feel.I’m sharing my story not to relive the pain, but to warn others. If you’re considering investing in anything that promises high returns with little risk, please do your research. Check trusted websites like Reddit and others to see if others have had similar experiences. Be cautious, and never invest more than you can afford to lose.Lastly, if you find yourself in a situation like mine, don’t give up. There are legitimate recovery teams out there that can help. Protect yourself, your finances, and your loved ones. The risks are real, but there is hope for recovery. E m a i l : info @ trustgeekshackexpert .. com And w h a t's A p p  +1 7 1 9 4 9 2 2 6 9 3
