Worcester boss Steve Diamond has tweeted that next weekend’s pre-season battle of the Warriors friendly versus Glasgow will go ahead as scheduled in Inverness despite the current uncertainty about the finances at the Gallagher Premiership club.

It’s been a near-fortnight of turmoil at Sixways since the news broke that Worcester have been issued with a winding-up petition by HMRC due to an unpaid tax bill. There has since been massively negative speculation about the club ahead of the 2022/23 league campaign, which is planned to kick off away to London Irish on September 10.
Co-owner Colin Goldring attempted to provide assurance by issuing a near 1,300-word statement overnight on the financial situation at Worcester, insisting that no asset stripping had taken place and that the change in ownership of some land parcels instead went into paying wages at the club last month and the month before.
Now, the director of rugby Diamond has taken to social media to thank shirt sponsors Adam Hewitt Limited, a specialist company dealing in agricultural and HGV salvage, for agreeing to take care of all the logistical costs involved in ensuring that the Worcester team can get to Scotland to play Glasgow on September 2.
A message posted on coach Diamond’s Twitter account under the heading ‘Together’ read: “Long-term partner and main shirt sponsor Adam Hewitt has once again shown his unwavering support for the team by financing their pre-season clash against Glasgow Warriors next Friday in Inverness.
“Steve Diamond’s squad have one pre-season fixture ahead of the new season and Adam has stepped in to ensure the match goes ahead by covering the logistical costs of the trip. The squad have been continuing their pre-season preparations in training ahead of the fixture and they would like to thank Adam wholeheartedly for his continued support.”
Diamond added: “The goodwill being received from the Worcester sponsors, Warriors supporters and the local community at this difficult time has been brilliant.”
