Te'o on standby after Farrell misses training
Ben Te’o is ready and waiting to fill in for Owen Farrell if the England centre loses his battle to be fit for Saturday’s Six Nations clash with Scotland.
Farrell missed training on Friday with a leg injury that was initially blamed on an accidental collision with coach Eddie Jones’ dog.
Jones will finalise his starting XV on Saturday and assistant coach Paul Gustard says Te’o is on hand to step in at inside centre, with Jonny May poised for a place on the bench.
“He’s pretty resilient. He will do the right thing by the team and by his body,” Gustard, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, said of Farrell.
“It will be a loss, of course, but we are very happy with the strengths Ben can bring. We are very happy with the 23 we will have on the pitch.
“We have flexibility, Jack Nowell is there who can come into the centre. Elliot Daly can come in to 13. So we will be very happy.”
