Toulon suspend O'Connor following arrest

Toulon utlity back James O’Connor

Toulon have suspended James O’Connor after the former Australia international was reportedly charged with being in possession of cocaine last weekend.

The utility-back and ex-New Zealand international Ali Williams were held in custody after being arrested in Paris early on Saturday.

Top 14 club Toulon on Tuesday revealed that O’Connor has been stood down for at least eight days after meeting with owner Mourad Boudjellal.

Boudjellal will conduct a further interview with the 26-year-old in the next eight days before making a decision on potential sanctions.

O’Connor is in the final year of his contract with Toulon and Boudjellal said the club do not plan to extend his stay at Stade Mayol.

Boudjellal earlier described O’Connor, who has expressed a desire to force his way back into the Australia squad, as “a kid with troubles”.

Racing 92 suspended Williams following his arrest.
