Not wanting to knock the guy of course, he actually played some really good rugby for a quite a few weeks on end for the Crusaders last year I thought (and what I think is reality of course), maybe more consistent this year, but you can’t answer anything other than “No” to that question if he’s not even playing better than when he didn’t get selected.

Nick Bishop has made me read Moneyball, and the perception I get with Razor is that Fihaki is his Billy Beane. He is the closest picture he can see to a Isreal Dagg replacement. They just can’t marry that picture with his performances unfortunately, which is obviously a really bad state for the an All Black selection panel to be. Perhaps Razor should show his ingenuity and assign the job to a head selector like Grant Fox!

I think he has the least amount of hit ups though, which means he’s either passing or kicking the ball instead, but even that is such a big difference that it might be too much, and too big of a sign he’s not comfortable carrying into contact.

Performance wise Fihaki is on about par with Sam Gilbert (who’s done a lot of good things too), and only really ahead of players like the Blues Corey Evans or Cole Forbes.

I don’t really feel your NZ v Aus Table idea, that’s not what it’s about. It’s not about us v them, it’s about both teams being able to celebrate together, fans share stories etc.

If there is some desire for that type of concept, I’d be inclined to think it would be better to ahve a host city/stadia for the weekend, and fans pick/vote for an anzac team, and the country with the most selections can celebrate harder and take the kudos that year.

In saying that, wingers in international rugby need to be much more proficient under the high ball and on D than in SR so I don’t necessarily agree with your comment.

The think with Mark is we’ve had it shared the fallout between Razor and MacDonald was over Razor overstepping his grounds in his preference for Reece over Tele’a. Now I wouldn’t normally be to perturbed by this, but we have a unique situation were Reece is the picture of a guy who’s not going to be able to keep his standards up, and Tele’a epitomizes effortlessness, and has only been in this game for 4-5 years, so are we really keeping a 30yo and throwing away a 23 yo?
