All Blacks centurion Mils Muliaina has torn into Nigel Owen for his performance in the second Bledisloe match in Dunedin over the weekend.

Muiliaina criticised Owen’s refusal to award a penalty try and his perceived over reliance on the TMO on ‘The Short Ball’ podcast.

“He’s our number one ref and I thought he lacked confidence in those big moments,” said Muliaina. “That could have been massive.”

However he did not criticise Owen’s decision not to card All Black secondrow Brodie Retallick for lifting Ned Hanigan off the ground in the aftermath of a ruck.
