The Kintetsu Liners have got their Japan Rugby League One campaign back on track with a mammoth 62-10 victory of Honda Heat in Division 2 of Japan’s new competition.

After their fixture was postponed last week, Wallaby playmakers Quade Cooper and Will Genia got their side off to a hot start when Genia sparked a long range try to opening the scoring.

The halfback targeted the short side with a one-two return pass to the winger and scampered away 45-metres to score untouched. His partner in crime Quade Cooper grabbed the second after some smart lead-up work.

From a midfield scrum Genia put in a kick in behind, after a scramble for the ball Cooper threw one of his trademark behind the back passes to beat two defenders and set up Kintetsu deep inside the opposition 22. It was Cooper who then barged over some scrambling defence to score his side’s second try.

Genia then scored the side’s third to finish his brace inside the first fifteen minutes, as the Liners went on to a 35-3 halftime lead.

Cooper was instrumental in sparking the Liners’ backline as they attacked Honda with width all day, breaking numerous times out wide through slick handling. They constructed some beautiful tries against the feeble Heat defence.

The former Queensland Reds flyhalf added a try assist early in the second half with a cross field kick-pass that landed perfectly for lock Waimana Kapa.

Cooper added five conversions from seven attempts to his tally as the Liners ran in nine tries.
