Speed isn’t what Farrell looks for in a winger. He likes an 11 with a big left boot (Lowe & Daly) and a 14 who can step into the line as a distributor (Hansen & Freeman). Duhan van der Merwe isn’t a Farrell style player but is too good to ignore. Graham isn’t quite that level.

Why former All Black believes the Wallabies will beat the B&I Lions

I actually think that the Lions will win, but as I said I'm hoping the Wallabies might edge it. They are certainly much better than at the last world cup and while not yet the finished article they have some amazing athletes. As a Kiwi I struggle to support the convicts but I am this time around.

Don't forget that Leinster is not far off the Irish national team, whereas the English are more diluted between different clubs. Also England learnt valuable lessons from the Ireland loss and improved, but I don't think Ireland got any better.


I'm full of admiration for what Ireland has achieved since Steve Aboud and co established the national academy in the mid 90s. However the current team has quite a lot of players who seem to have passed their peak. It needs refreshing.
