World Rugby statement: Nic Berry replaced as England-All Blacks ref

French referee Mathieu Raynal is suddenly enjoying an unscheduled very busy November as he has followed his late appointment for last Saturday’s Ireland versus Fiji game in Dublin by now getting handed the whistle for England versus the All Blacks after Australian Nic Berry pulled out of the game on Tuesday.

The French official had the world of rugby talking last September when he awarded his controversial time-wasting penalty in the final minute of the Rugby Championship match between the Wallabies and the All Blacks in Melbourne. The official penalised Australia’s Bernard Foley when he had a penalty that he was readying to kick into touch with time almost up at the Marvel Stadium.

The hotly debated call handed the All Blacks possession and they soon scored to grab victory from the jaws of defeat, igniting arguments around the rugby world over whether Raynal was correct to be so strict about what he had done.

While Raynal kept his appointment as an assistant referee for that follow-up Bledisloe Cup match at Eden Park, he had since slipped down the referee pecking order when World Rugby announced its teams of officials for the 40 matches across the men’s Autumn Nations Series programme.

Raynal was just given a single match to officiate, the November 19 game between Romania and Samoa in Bucharest. That low-key fixture was in sharp contrast to the high-profile type of Test matches he was usually appointed for – but he has now been handed another unanticipated reprieve with Berry marked absent for England versus the All Blacks following on from the absence of the injured Jaco Peyper from the Ireland versus Fiji game.

A statement read: “World Rugby has confirmed changes to the match official appointments for England vs New Zealand and Romania vs Samoa on November 19 and France vs Japan on November 29. Mathieu Raynal (France) will now referee the England vs New Zealand match at Twickenham in the Autumn Nations Series on November 19. Raynal replaces Nic Berry (Australia), who has returned home for personal reasons.

“Two further amendments come as a result of this change. Christophe Ridley (England) will replace Raynal as referee for the Romania vs Samoa match in Bucharest on November 19, while Chris Busby (Ireland) replaces Ridley as assistant referee for the France vs Japan match in Toulouse in the Autumn Nations Series on November 20.

“There has also been a change of referee for the Bristol Bears vs South Africa A match in Bristol on November 17. Gianluca Gnecchi (Italy) will now take charge of the match instead of Adam Jones (Wales).”

Similar to his most recent game refereeing the All Blacks, Raynal’s last match in charge of England also generated a massive talking point as he sent off lock Charlie Ewels just 82 seconds into the Six Nations clash in March with Ireland.

Mathieu Raynal is an appalling refereee, while he knows the rules and largely applies them correctly, the guy has no rugby soul or feel. He's just a whistle happy rules monster. Was gutted when he got the Ireland v Fjii game because you knew instead of two teams well able to chuck the ball around, would instead be whistled in to standstill...

Agree! The so-called Ferrel captain is from the slums as the way he swears and shouts like a uncontrolled tantrum child is disgusting! Rugby's image is lowered with such low-class gutter mouthed, and attitude people involved! Tiem for edddie the clown and his swearing aggressive foul-mouthed captain to leave rugby! We don't want you around!

Northern hemisphere referee means players can have their arms on the ground which counts as hands on the ball in rucks. Bugger.

That's certainly one rule which is ignored in the North but the Southern players shouldn't do it. Bad habit to get into for the return season at home because Southern refs actually call according to the rule book. WR really needs to stress the need for consistency between hemispheres.

Leinster cleanse palette with record URC scoreline against Zebre

My name is Solenn Bonnet, and I am a single mother navigating the challenges of raising my two-year-old child while trying to make ends meet. I came across a trading platform that promised astonishing daily profits of 18%. The allure of such a high return on investment was too tempting to resist, and I found myself drawn into cryptocurrency trading. Excited by the prospect of financial freedom, I invested a significant amount of my savings, totaling over 5.7 BTC. However, what started as a hopeful venture quickly turned into a nightmare. The platform was a scam, and I lost everything I had invested. The emotional toll of this loss was immense; I felt devastated and helpless, struggling to provide for my child and keep up with my bills. In my desperate attempt to recover my funds, I sought help from various recovery experts. Unfortunately, I encountered numerous fraudulent individuals who claimed they could help me retrieve my lost money. Each time I reached out, I was met with disappointment and further scams, which only deepened my despair. Last year was one of the most challenging periods of my life, filled with anxiety and uncertainty about my financial future. Feeling overwhelmed and at a loss, I confided in a close friend from church about my situation. She listened compassionately and shared her own experiences with financial difficulties. Understanding my plight, she introduced me to Tech Cyber Force Recovery, a group of skilled hackers known for their expertise in recovering lost funds. Skeptical yet hopeful, I decided to reach out to them as a last resort. Their services came at a higher cost, but my friend generously offered to help me with a partial payment. I was amazed by how quickly they responded and began the recovery process. Their team was professional, efficient, and incredibly supportive throughout the entire ordeal. To my relief, they successfully recovered more than I had lost to those heartless scammers. This was truly transformative, and I felt a sense of relief and gratitude that I hadn’t felt in a long time. I strongly encourage anyone who has faced similar challenges or fallen victim to scams to reach out to Tech Cyber Force Recovery. If you’ve invested in a fraudulent platform like I did, they are highly capable of helping you reclaim your hard-earned money. Don’t lose hope; there is a way to recover what you’ve lost.
