Wyn Jones ruled out of remainder of Welsh tour

Wales prop Wyn Jones

Wyn Jones has suffered a calf injury in training ruling him out of the test against Argentina on Saturday and the remainder of the summer tour.

Jones will return to the Scarlets for further diagnosis and prognosis.

Rob Evans, who was due to start on the bench on Saturday comes into the starting XV with Nicky Smith added to the replacements.

Jones has been unlucky with injuries, having been released from Wales’ Six Nations squad back in February after suffering a hamstring injury during the defeat to Ireland.

You are wrong. Clearly the Australian teams have got better , with there being one less team. Joe Schmidt has made a difference. I would not be so dismissive of the Wallabies. I would back James O’Connor to play at 10 or off the bench for Australia. Loving his work at the Crusaders.

Is anyone else worried that Holland is playing so many minutes? He’s still a young guy but because of injuries and JJ’s short-sightedness (his comment at the beginning of the season that he was comfortable with 6’ 1inch locks) he’s being ground down. I’m not suggesting his standards have slipped - far from it - and he ‘s got a huge ticker but he’s having to carry too much week after week in that Landers pack. If he’d been in the ABs last year instead of an AB XV, JJ would be forced to have a bit more regard for how much he’s asking of the guy.

I think my concept of rugby essentially being a game played in stanzas rather than continuous play from ruck to ruck is justified in the stat about the amount of tries scored within three phases which means that either the tries came from set pieces or turnover possession. Apparently the tries didn’t come from scrums so either lineouts or turnovers. So if most tries come from turnovers does that not give credence to the theory that giving the ball to the opposition (provided you have a really good defence) will get you more tries that phase after phase going nowhere. I feel smugly justified in my belief that league oriented mindset is not only boring but unproductive. 😇

It’s always amusing to read NH opinions on this tour. From an Australian perspective the Lions winning a test was a surprise and only occurred because Australia had no hit outs. Despite not really getting past second gear the Wallabies won the second and third tests quite easily. Any idea the Lions were close is wildly inaccurate.
