Aaron Mauger Bio
Aaron Mauger is a rugby coach who used to play for the New Zealand national team. In addition to being capped almost 50 times by his country, he represented a number of the world’s top domestic sides, including Canterbury, the Crusaders and Leicester Tigers. He’s currently the head coach of Moana Pasifika.
On 29 November 1980, Aaron Mauger was born into a rugby-playing family. Both of his uncles are also former All Blacks, as is older brother, Nathan.
During his school days, Aaron Mauger was regarded as a standout talent. As a result, in 1999, he was selected to play for Canterbury for the first time. In the same year, he also made his debut for the New Zealand Colts. In 2000, he started to represent the Crusaders in Super Rugby (now Super Rugby Pacific).
After only two seasons with Canterbury and one with the Crusaders, Aaron Mauger was called up to represent the All Blacks for the first time. Between 2001 and 2007, he was capped 46 times by his country.
However, following the Rugby World Cup in 2007, Aaron Mauger decided to leave New Zealand. As a result he signed for Leicester Tigers in England. Sadly, in 2010, he was forced to retire from rugby due to a back injury.
After his playing career was prematurely halted, Aaron Mauger moved into coaching. Since 2013, he’s held various positions with the Crusaders, Leicester Tigers, Samoa and the Highlanders. He’s currently the head coach of Moana Pasifika in Super Rugby Pacific.
