Here we are, about to begin another season of Premiership Women’s Rugby. Last season saw Gloucester-Hartpury Women lift the trophy once again, winning a free-flowing finale against Bristol Bears Women.
The first round of the 2023/24 Allianz Premiership Women’s Rugby got underway in fine fashion last weekend. At the end of the round Bristol Bears Women topped the standings after their bonus-point win, followed by Saracens Women in second and Exeter Chiefs Women in third after both also secured five points.
As Wasps savoured their moment of magic, a concurrent plot played out. Yes, they had de-bagelled themselves in the standings–but they were also en route to shipping nine tries, and finding themselves with just five matches left in the league.
Eddie Jones' side were well beaten in Paris but despite being 24 points down with 20 minutes remaining, they still managed to do something that gave fans something to cling to.
