Christophe Dominici was a giant of French rugby in the 2000s. During his international career, he represented his country at three Rugby World Cups and he won four Six Nations Championship titles, including two Grand Slams. Sadly, he passed away in November 2020. Christophe Dominici was inducted into the RugbyPass Hall of Fame in 2021.
Christophe Dominici was a gifted sportsman in his younger days and he played football for AS Monaco. However, he ultimately decided to concentrate on rugby after excelling for amateur side Solliès-Pont.
Christophe Dominici’s club career started with La Valette in 1991. But, it only took a couple of seasons before he attracted the attention of French giants Toulon. He then enjoyed four seasons with the side before he ultimately signed for Stade Français, where he played 142 games and won five French Championships before his retirement from the game in 2008.
In addition, between 1998 and 2007, Christophe Dominici was a powerhouse for France. During this period, he received more than 60 caps and he was instrumental in helping France overcome New Zealand in the 1999 Rugby World Cup semi-final. He also won the Six Nations Championship four times and made appearances for France at three Rugby World Cups.
After retiring from rugby in 2008, Christophe Dominici stayed with Stade Français as a backs coach. Following his coaching stint with the side, he found work as a sports expert on French TV and radio. In early 2020, he also worked with a consortium from the UAE that was looking to buy Béziers rugby club.
Sadly, later in 2020, Christophe Dominici passed away after he fell from the roof of an abandoned building in an apparent suicide. He had been known to suffer from bouts of depression since childhood and was described as a ‘fragile’ figure by friends and family. He was survived by his partner and his daughters.
