Danny Grewcock was a great of English rugby in the 1990s and 2000s. Throughout his distinguished career, he represented Coventry and Saracens before making more than 150 appearances for Bath. He was also capped by England 69 times and made five appearances for the British and Irish Lions.
Danny Grewcock began his promising rugby career at a young age. While still a junior, he even played for Warwickshire U21s at the tender age of 19.
His senior career began in 1994 when he signed for Coventry. He then stayed with the side until 1997, when he made the switch to Saracens. He then stayed with Saracens until 2001, when he signed for Bath. At Bath, Danny Grewcock became a club legend. He represented the club for more than a decade and made 154 appearances during this time.
Danny Grewcock was first capped by his country in 1997, while he was still playing for Coventry. Between then and 2007, he made 69 appearances for England and performed admirably in both the Rugby World Cup and the Six Nations Championship. Sadly though, despite initially being in the England squad for their victorious 2003 Rugby World Cup campaign, he only made one appearance in the tournament due to injury.
At the international level, Danny Grewcock’s impressive performances for England also saw him called into the British and Irish Lions squad for the 2001 and 2005 tours. On these tours, he was capped five times.
Despite his chequered disciplinary record, Danny Grewcock enjoyed a highly distinguished career at both the domestic and international level. Since his retirement from the game in 2011, he’s held roles with Bath Academy and has worked as Director of Sports at Oundle School.
