What’s more, he’s considered to be one of the greats of the Irish game and was inducted into the nation’s Hall of Fame in 2013.
Born in Cork, Ireland in September 1959, sport was in his blood as his father Gerald was an Irish boxing champion and former Gaelic footballer. Donal Lenihan first got involved in rugby union in school and quickly developed a passion for the game. He went on to captain various school teams and when he was a student at University College Cork, he played for the institution’s rugby union side at amateur level.
