Émile Ntamack Bio
Émile Ntamack remains one of the finest players to ever pick up a rugby ball. Throughout his distinguished career, he became the first man to ever lift the Heineken Champions Cup and he was capped almost 50 times by his country. Émile Ntamack was inducted into the RugbyPass Hall of Fame in 2021.
Émile Ntamack was born into a rugby-playing family on 25 June 1970. His amateur career began in 1985, when he signed to play for US Meyzieu. After a couple of successful seasons with the side, he left in 1987 and signed for Lavaur. Here, he caught the attention of Toulouse, who he signed for the following season.
Between 1988 and 2004, Émile Ntamack represented Toulouse with distinction and he regularly captained the side. During his domestic career with Toulouse, he captured the French Championship six times and the French Cup twice. Crucially, he also won the Heineken Champions Cup twice. In 1996, he also became the first player to ever lift the trophy, after Toulouse won the inaugural edition of the tournament.
Although Émile Ntamack was a talisman for Toulouse, he was arguably just as important for the French national team. Between 1994 and 2000, he was capped 46 times by his country. On the international stage, he captured the Grand Slam in the Five Nations (now the Six Nations Championship) and he played for France in the 1999 Rugby World Cup final.
Since retiring from rugby in 2004, Émile Ntamack has held a number of prominent coaching positions in France, including positions with the French national team and Toulouse.
