Eric Elwood is a former Ireland and Connacht fly half who now works as a coach.
Eric Elwood Bio
Eric Elwood is a former Ireland fly half who has since moved into coaching. During his playing days, he represented Connacht more than 150 times. Today, he’s in charge of the province’s academy.
Born 26 February 1969, Eric Elwood split his club career between his hometown club of Galwegians and Dublin-based Lansdowne. However, he spent all of his provincial career representing Connacht. Between 1989 and 2005, Eric Elwood played 168 times for the Irish province, scoring more than 1,000 points in the process.
During his time with the province, Eric Elwood became the first player to ever play in 100 games for Connacht. Today, he remains the province’s all-time record points scorer.
Although he remains widely respected in Connacht, Eric Elwood is probably best known for his career with the Irish national team. Between 1993 and 1999, he was capped by his country 35 times. During this time, he also participated in two Rugby World Cups.
In addition to his time with Ireland, Eric Elwood also made one appearance for the Barbarians invitational side. In their game against New Zealand in Cardiff, Eric Elwood scored all of his side’s 12 points.
Since retiring from rugby in 2005, Eric Elwood has turned his attention to coaching. During this time, he’s stayed with his beloved Connacht. He started as an assistant coach with the side, but he’s also had spells as the team’s head coach and kicking coach. He’s currently the Academy Manager.
