Frankie Sheahan is a retired, Irish rugby union hooker who represented the Ireland national side and spent his entire senior career with Irish provincial side, Munster.
Born in Toronto, Canada in August 1976, Frankie Sheahan – sometimes known as Frank – first played rugby aged 9 for local sides in Cork. He then began his amateur rugby union career in 1994 with University College Cork before eventually signing as a senior player for Munster in 1996. Sheahan would remain with the side until 2009 playing in what was the IRFU Interprovincial Championship until 2001 and then the Celtic League.
During his time with Munster, he earned Celtic League titles in 2003 and 2009, as well as Heineken Champions Cup wins in 2006 and 2008 respectively. In total he also appeared for the side over 150 times and scored over 100 points. Frankie Sheahan was meant to sign for French side Brive to play in the Top 14 on a two-year deal, but following a continuing chest problem and under subsequent medical advice, he instead retired from the game in 2009.
Frankie Sheahan played for the Ireland national side between 2000 and 2007, his test debut came against America, in a game Ireland went on to win 83-3. He earned call ups to the Rugby World Cup in 2003 and 2007 and played in numerous Six Nations Championship tournaments. In total he earned 29 caps and scored 25 points with his final appearance coming against France in the pool match loss during the 2007 Rugby World Cup.
Outside of rugby, Frankie Sheahan has numerous business interests and works as a ‘Leadership Speaker’. He also enjoys golf, is married and has five children.
