Bio
Gabrielle Vernier is a French rugby union player who plays as an inside centre for Blagnac Rugby Féminin. In 2017, she made her national debut for the France women’s rugby union team.
Born on 12 June 1997, Vernier developed an interest in rugby during her childhood. She first began training at the age of 10 for Rueil Athletic Club and spent four years there before joining the junior team at Racing Club Nanterre.
Later, Vernier moved to Lille to pursue her studies. In 2016, she made her senior debut for Lille MRCV and was an immediate success, winning the French championship during her first season. Her senior debut with the national team came one year later in 2017.
Vernier is an eager player, always looking to enhance her skills. In 2021, she became an award-winning player after being named as the Six Nations Player of Round 1.
The following year, Vernier joined the national team for the delayed 2021 Rugby World Cup. She featured in France’s opening game against South Africa, and during the semi-finals. Her talent was evident when she scored a try during a match against New Zealand. Unfortunately the Black Ferns won by just one point.
Now an established player, Vernier has become a stalwart for the French team. She contested every match at the 2022 and 2024 Six Nations, and played every minute at the 2023 Championship. She won Player of the Tournament for her performances during the 2023 Championship and was later added to World Rugby’s Dream Team. She was also nominated for the Player of the Year Award in the same year.
Vernier’s talents have been clear and she has achieved some impressive feats so far. With a long career left ahead of her, we’re excited to watch her progress.
