Ian Gough is a giant of Welsh rugby who represented his country 64 times. During his career, he played for a number of the world’s top sides, including Newport, the Dragons and Ospreys.
Born 10 November 1976, Ian Gough began playing rugby during his school days. Then, he joined Newport in 1996. Although he spent much of his domestic career based in the city representing Newport (1996-2003) and the Newport Gwent Dragons (2003-07 and 2014-15), he also represented a number of other elite sides during his domestic career, including Pontypridd (1998-2000), the Ospreys (2007-2013) and London Irish (2013-14). Throughout his domestic career, Ian Gough made more than 400 appearances for the sides he represented with distinction.
Although he enjoyed a stellar domestic career that spanned almost 20 years, Ian Gough is best known for his Wales career. In total, between 1998 and 2009, he was capped an impressive 64 times by his country. During this period, the highlights of his career were undoubtedly the 2007 Rugby World Cup and his performances at the 2008 Six Nations Championship, where he appeared in every game as Wales won the Grand Slam.
Ian Gough retired from rugby in 2015 after spending one final season in Newport with the Dragons. Since then, he has taken on a number of charity and ambassadorial roles. Alongside this, he has a burgeoning property empire and he takes a keen interest in aviation as an amateur pilot.
