Josh Lewsey Bio
Throughout his career, Josh Lewsey was a formidable and versatile player who was a mainstay for England and Wasps. During his distinguished career, he won almost every trophy the game had to offer.
Josh Lewsey took a unique path to professional rugby. During his youth, he attended the University of Bath and he graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 2001. As a result, he was commissioned as a troop commander into the Royal Artillery. However, after two years of combining the Army and a professional rugby career, he found that doing both became impossible. Due to this, he resigned his commission.
While at university, Josh Lewsey combined his studies with appearances for Bristol RFC. However, when his studies came to an end, he returned to London Wasps, who he’d previously represented at Colts level. He then played for Wasps for the rest of his domestic career. During this time, he claimed 12 trophies. This included four Premierships and two Heineken Champions Cups.
During his playing days, Josh Lewsey also enjoyed a stellar career with England. Between 1998 and 2008, he was capped more than 50 times by his country and he was an integral member of the 2003 Rugby World Cup-winning side. Thanks to his performances for England, he was also selected for the 2005 British and Irish Lions tour of New Zealand, where he played in all three tests. During this tour, he was described as a ‘standout player’.
Since retiring from rugby, Josh Lewsey has set up a leadership development and business consultancy firm. In recent years, he has also taken on consultancy roles at several private companies and he was Head of Rugby for the Welsh Rugby Union between 2013 and 2015.
