Kevin Maggs Bio
Kevin Maggs is a retired rugby union player who spent the majority of his career on the pitches in the South West of England, with Bristol Bears and Bath Rugby. He was known for his determined, direct style of play and tough tackling abilities that he employed at both domestic and international level.
Born in Bristol in June 1974, Kevin Maggs started his rugby union career as an amateur youth at Bristol in the early 1990s, before eventually signing professionally in 1993. He stayed with the Bears until 1998 before then moving to nearby Bath where he would remain until 2004.
At the start of the 2004-05 season, he headed across to Ireland to play two seasons with Ulster where he would earn a Celtic League winner’s medal in 2006. However, he then returned to Bristol for another two seasons before playing for one year with Rotherham Titans and lastly as a player coach and later a Director of Sport for Moseley in Birmingham.
Across his club career Kevin Maggs made over 300 collective appearances and was a popular player wherever he went, but he finally fully retired from the sport in 2017.
Despite being born in England, Kevin Maggs qualified to play for Ireland through his Limerick-born grandfather. He made his debut in 1997 in a development tour to New Zealand and also played at both the 1999 and 2003 Rugby World Cups. In total he earned 70 caps and scored 75 points for Ireland, with his final cap coming in 2005.
After his spell at Moseley, Kevin Maggs is now a talent ID coach for the Irish RFU.
