Luke Charteris is a retired lock who represented Newport Gwent Dragons, USA Perpignan, Racing 92 and Bath. He was also capped 74 times by Wales. Since retiring, he's been a specialist line-out coach at Bath.
Born 9 March 1983, Luke Charteris began his playing career with Newport Gwent Dragons in 2003. Over the course of almost two decades, he made just short of 150 appearances for the Welsh region and was named as the side's captain in 2011.
However, in 2012, Luke Charteris decided to leave Wales and signed to play for USA Perpignan in the French Top 14. After Perpignan were relegated to Pro D2 in 2014, he signed for Racing 92 on a two-year deal.
Luke Charteris then stayed with Racing 92 for a further two seasons before he moved to England. In 2016, he signed for Bath. He ultimately retired with the side in 2019.
In total, Luke Charteris made more than 250 professional appearances in his career. This included games in France, Wales and England. However, although he was highly distinguished at the domestic level, Luke Charteris is undoubtedly best known for his appearances on the international stage.
After representing Wales at U19 and U21 levels, Luke Charteris made his debut for the senior side in 2004. Between then and 2017, he was a mainstay of the side and he was capped 74 times by his country. This included many Six Nations Championship games and appearances at the 2011 and 2015 editions of the Rugby World Cup.
Since retiring from playing in 2019, Luke Charteris has moved into coaching. He's currently a line-out coach with Bath Rugby.
