Mark Cueto Bio
Mark Cueto was a try-scoring powerhouse who represented Sale Sharks and England.
Born 26 December 1979, Mark Cueto grew up as a football fan. As a result, he didn’t play rugby union for most of his childhood. However, it did not take long for his obvious talent to show, and in 2001, he signed for Sale Sharks. Between then and 2015, he represented the club more than 300 times and was even voted into the Sale Sharks Hall of Fame in 2010.
Throughout his distinguished career with Sale, Mark Cueto won the English Premiership once (2005-06), the European Rugby Challenge Cup twice (2001-02 and 2004-05) and finished as a runner-up in the Anglo-Welsh Cup twice (2003-04 and 2012-13). When he retired from professional rugby in 2015, he also held the record as the Premiership’s leading try scorer with 90. However, this record has since been overtaken.
Thanks to his impressive performances for Sale Sharks, Mark Cueto was called into the England squad for the first time in 2004. He’d previously also represented England at Rugby Sevens and had performed admirably for England A. Between 2004 and 2011, Mark Cueto was a prominent member of the England side and he was capped 55 times by his country.
During his international career, Mark Cueto’s tries guided England to the Six Nations title in 2011 and the final of the 2007 Rugby World Cup. Due to his impressive performances for England, he was also called into the British and Irish Lions squad for the 2005 tour of New Zealand.
Mark Cueto retired from professional rugby in 2015. Since, he’s worked as a commercial director for Sale Sharks.
