Mike Teague Bio
Mike Teague was a giant of English rugby in the 1980s and 90s. During this period, he was a formidable flanker who regularly represented England and played almost 300 games for Gloucester. Mike Teague was inducted into the RugbyPass Hall of Fame in 2021.
Mike Teague developed a love of rugby at a young age. As a result, he spent large chunks of his childhood watching Gloucester play at what is now the Kingsholm Stadium. After playing for several local clubs in his younger years, he then signed for Gloucester during the 1978-79 season.
Known affectionately as ‘Iron Mike’ by the club’s fans, Mike Teague was a firm favourite at his hometown club. However, during his career, he did enjoy brief spells with Cardiff RFC and Stroud RFC. During his later years, he also played for Moseley.
But, whenever he left Gloucester, Mike Teague always returned shortly after. As a result, by the time he finished his career with Gloucester in 1995, he’d represented the club 291 times.
As well as enjoying a stellar career with Gloucester, Mike Teague also enjoyed a distinguished international career. Between 1985 and 1993, he was capped by his country 27 times. Thanks to his impressive performances for the side, he was also capped three times by the British and Irish Lions across two tours (1989 and 1993). On the first of these tours, he was named as the player of the series.
Since his rugby career came to a close, Mike Teague has opened a pub directly opposite Kingsholm Stadium. He now divides his time between running the pub and developing property.
