Mike Tindall Bio
Mike Tindall was a giant of English rugby for more than a decade. Today, many people think he was one of the finest players to ever put on an England shirt. Now an MBE, he’s a player who has won almost every trophy the game has to offer.
Born 18 October 1978, Mike Tindall began playing rugby at a young age while his father was captain of Otley Rugby Union Football Club. Straight from school, he joined Bath. Over the next eight years, he made more than 100 appearances for the club, where he won the Heineken Champions Cup and finished as a runner-up in the Premiership on several occasions.
However, when his contract came up for renewal in 2005, Mike Tindall encountered difficulties with Bath’s strict salary cap policy. As a result, he chose to sign for Gloucester, where he remained until his retirement in 2014. During this period, he played almost 200 times for the club and won the English Premiership, the Anglo-Welsh Cup and the European Rugby Challenge Cup.
Despite his phenomenal performances for Bath and Gloucester over the years, Mike Tindall is best known for his career in an England shirt. He earned his first cap in 2000 and went on to make 75 appearances for the national side. During this time, he helped the national team win the Rugby World Cup in 2003 and he also captured the Six Nations Championship on several occasions.
Since his retirement from professional rugby in 2014, Mike Tindall has made some sporadic appearances for amateur side Minchinhampton RFC. He also works as a podcast host and a charity ambassador. He’s married to Zara Tindall, who is a member of the British Royal Family.
