Peter Stringer Bio
Peter Stringer was a powerful and combative scrum-half who was capped almost 100 times by Ireland and made more than 200 appearances for Munster.
Peter Stringer began playing for Munster in 1998 and almost immediately became a regular for the first team. Although he was on the losing side in the 2000 and 2002 Heineken Champions Cup finals, he claimed his first piece of silverware in 2003 when Munster captured the Celtic League (now the United Rugby Championship). During his time with the province, he also captured the Celtic Cup and the Heineken Champions Cup. Although he ultimately fell out of favour with the side and enjoyed loans at Saracens and Newcastle, Peter Stringer became the side’s most capped player ever in the 2010-11 season. However, this record has since been passed.
After concluding the 2013 season on loan with Bath, Peter Stringer signed for the club on a permanent basis until 2015. Before his retirement in 2018, he also enjoyed spells with Sale Sharks (2015-17) and Worcester Warriors (2017-18). In total, he made more than 350 domestic appearances between 1998 and 2018.
As well as enjoying a stellar domestic career, Peter Stringer enjoyed a highly distinguished international career with Ireland. In total, he was capped 98 times by his country between 2000 and 2011. During this time, he helped Ireland win the Triple Crown in 2004, 2006 and 2007. Following this, he helped the team win their first Six Nations Grand Slam since 1948 in 2009.
Since retiring from the game in 2018, Peter Stringer has qualified as a personal trainer. He also regularly appears on Irish television.
