Robin McBryde Bio
Robin McBryde is a former Welsh international who currently works as a coach for Leinster. During his distinguished playing career, he also made four appearances for the British and Irish Lions on their 2001 tour of Australia.
Born 3 July 1970 in North Wales, Robin McBryde worked as an overhead linesman before he became a professional rugby player. Throughout his illustrious playing career, he represented a number of Wales’ best sides, including Bangor RFC, Swansea RFC and Llanelli RFC. He also joined the Llanelli Scarlets when the team was formed in 2003. In total, he represented Llanelli and the Llanelli Scarlets a combined 250 times between 1994 and 2005. He also captained Llanelli when they won the Welsh Cup in 1998 and the Welsh Championship in 1999.
Although he enjoyed a highly successful domestic career, Robin McBryde saved his best performances for the international stage. Between 1994 and 2005, he was capped 37 times by Wales. On his final appearance in a Wales shirt in 2005, he helped the side achieve the Grand Slam at the Six Nations Championship.
Due to his success for Wales, Robin McBryde was selected for the British and Irish Lions tour of Australia in 2001. On the tour he made appearances against Western Australia, Queensland Presidents XV, Australia A and New South Wales. Sadly, he was then forced to withdraw through injury.
Since retiring from rugby, Robin McBryde has moved into coaching. After working with the Scarlets U18 side, he was appointed as the forwards coach for Wales. Following the conclusion of the 2019 Rugby World Cup, he became an assistant coach for Leinster.
