Ryan Jones Bio
Ryan Jones is a Welsh rugby legend who was capped 75 times by his country and made three British and Irish Lions appearances during his distinguished career.
Ryan Jones represented Wales between 2004 and 2014 as a number eight, blindside flanker or lock. During that time, he was involved in three Grand Slam wins, including two as captain. When he retired, he also held the record as Wales’ most capped captain, although this record has since been overtaken by Sam Warburton.
At club level, Ryan Jones made an impressive 150 appearances for Ospreys, where he won the Celtic League, the Anglo-Welsh Cup and the Magners League. He also had stints playing at Bristol, Celtic Warriors, Bridgend and Newport, where he was born.
Sadly, Ryan Jones was forced to retire from rugby in 2015 on medical advice due to a reoccurring shoulder injury. In more recent times he surprisingly quit his role as Welsh Rugby Union performance director five years after he first joined the WRU as director of community rugby.
