Troy Flavell Bio
Troy Flavell is a former All Blacks lock who was renowned for his power in the scrum. Throughout his distinguished career, he also represented many of the world’s top domestic sides, including the Blues, Bayonne and Toyota Verblitz.
Born 4 November 1976, Troy Flavell enjoyed an incredibly successful domestic career. For the vast majority of his playing days, he split his time between New Zealand and Japan.
After first representing North Harbour between 1997 and 2004, Troy Flavell briefly left New Zealand to represent Toyota Verblitz (2004-06). Following this, he returned to his native country and played for Auckland (2006-07) before he returned to Japan once again and signed for Mitsubishi DynaBoars (2008-10).
However, throughout this period of his career, Troy Flavell was an ever present for the Blues in Super Rugby. Over the course of almost a decade, he made 79 appearances for the Blues and captained the side during the 2007 Super 14 season. Prior to this, he’d also enjoyed one season with the Chiefs at the beginning of his career.
In 2010, when his contract with Mitsubishi DynaBoars ended, Troy Flavell left New Zealand and Japan entirely and signed with Bayonne in the French Top 14. He stayed with the side until 2012, when he left for Saint Jean de Luz, where he retired.
Although he enjoyed a successful and nomadic rugby career, Troy Flavell was still capped 22 times by the All Blacks between 2000 and 2008. However, he sadly never had the opportunity to represent his country at the Rugby World Cup.
Since retiring from professional rugby, Troy Flavell has returned to New Zealand. He now works in the real estate industry.
