Biarritz Olympique
Biarritz Olympique is a French rugby union team that is more commonly referred to simply as Biarritz. The club competes in the Pro D2, the second division of rugby union in France.
The club was founded in 1913 and it wasn’t long before they secured their first notable honour. Just over 20 years after their formation, they defeated Perpignan in the final of the 1935 French Championship and took home the title.
Two years later, they won the Challenge Yves du Manoir. Before the end of the decade, they gained a second French Championship title, claiming victory over Perpignan in 1939. Unfortunately, Biarritz didn’t make it to the final again until 1992, where they lost 19-3 against Toulon.
In the early 2000s, they regained their title, winning the French Championship in 2002, 2005 and 2006. In 2006, they also made it to the final of the European Rugby Champions Cup, but lost to Munster.
Sadly, since then, the team’s fortunes have taken a downturn. They were relegated from the Top 14 to the Pro D2 in 2014, before winning promotion once more in 2021. However, they were relegated again in 2022 and have played in the Pro D2 ever since.
The Biarritz rugby team is one of France’s finest. We can’t wait to see whether they can make it back to the Top 14.
